Artist Statement

I’ve been creating art since I was a toddler; my first efforts included scribbles in the fronts of my parent’s encyclopedia set. Later, I began drawing with pencils and pastels, and finally my true love: oil paints.

I am also an avid birder; I started watching them in childhood on the farm in Virginia I grew up on (I loved identifying the different birds I saw on hikes in the mountains). I continue to watch and sketch birds (my house is in a national forest and has five feeders!) My goal in my art is to combine my love of nature and birds in portrayals that show the marvelous character, many expressions and beautiful colors of each in oils.
